Uncle B

$10.95

Description

New to our lineup for the spring 2024 season.  We find Uncle B to have strong, pencil thick stems that hold up it’s large 8″-10″ bloom.  Purple, although it could pass for pink, with a white line edge.  Fantastic tuber producer and produces large tubers.  We saw this dahlia and needed to add this one in honor of Aimees’ father, who was the best ‘Uncle Bud’ anyone could ask for.  He was very loved by his family and he is missed everyday.

Growers Notes:

    • Dahlias are planted in late spring after the soil has warmed up to 60 degrees
    • Plant around the same time you would plant tomato plants and other warm season crops
    • Add a 4″ layer of compost on the garden bed, and till/mix into the soil.
    • Plant dahlia tubers horizontal (on their sides) in an area that receives 6-8 hours of sunlight per day.
    • Wet Climates: No extra water until sprout is 5”-6” tall, normal spring rains will give the soil and your tubers all the moisture it needs.  Tubers will rot in soggy soils
    • Dry Climates:  Your tubers need moisture in the soil to grow.  If your soil is dry during the spring, water lightly once a week to add and retain moisture in the soil
    • After the dahlia sprout is 6” tall, deep soak every 2-3 days
    • Fertilizer:  Use a slow release, organic fertilizer when you plant, with a low nitrogen number ( low 1st number)  Apply a 5-10-10 or 10-20-20 granular fertilizer 30 – 60 days after you plant.
